In early March Arlington Economic Development presented its annual Real
Estate Review and Forecast to a packed room of over 100 real estate professionals in
Arlington. This presentation was prefaced with a listing of Arlington's "MVP Credentials",
essentially a list of accolades it has received over the last two years.
It was an impressive list, covering Arlington's strong and stable economy, its highly educated and
highly paid workforce, its reputation for good planning and more. These awards validate the
quality of Arlington as a location to live and work.
Following Arlington's most recent award as a Top 7 Intelligent Community, and as part of the final
competition for Intelligent Community of the Year, a represtentative from the Intelligent
Community Forum came to Arlington for an official site visit. While awarding the most intelligent
community in the world is a daunting task, and one that likely requires apples-to-oranges
comparisons, it was nonetheless an rewarding opportunity to present Arlington as a community.
Representatives from across Arlington County Government, Arlington County Schools, its business
community, civic assocations, County Board, School Board and more met with the ICF representative,
to show that Arlington was much more than simple accolades: we are a community that strives for
excellence in all areas.
Arlington County, Arlington Economic Development, and local Arlington businesses should be rightly
proud of the awards and designations. They do indeed validate us as having a truly special and
“superlative” community in so many different ways, judged by a wide variety of groups and examined
from many different dimensions. Arlington is pleased to have earned a reputation that continues to
pay dividends as we go about our daily, superlative, work as Arlingtonians.
