Retail Marketing

Plans are currently underway for a new retail promotion campaign designed to promote Arlington's shops and restaurants and to encourage residents, visitors and employees to shop local - shop Arlington.

Difficult financial times can often spell disaster for small businesses - and Arlington depends on our small retail businesses as key components of its economic sustainability and its neighborhood character.

In times like these, small businesses need support from the broader community to weather the storm. As retail sales continue to soften, we'll be asking all Arlingtonians to make a special effort to frequent small, local businesses. Buying coffee at Murky Coffee or Java Shack, eating out at one of Arlington's many excellent locally owned and operated restaurants, and buying gifts at Kinder Haus Toys, Le Village Marche or the Curious Grape are all great ways to support Arlington's much-loved retail.

The People's Choice ABBIE Awards, honoring Arlington's Best Businesses is a great place to find Arlington's favorite local gems. Big retail will always have a presence, but we cannot afford to lose those small locally owned merchants that provide uniqueness and character to our community.

As Spring approaches, Arlington farmer’s markets and artist's markets will arrive, brimming with fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, baked goods, crafts, gifts and more.

Arlington Economic Development will be partnering with neighborhood partnerships, Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) to formulate a plan in the next few weeks. Look for more information on how you can support Arlington's retail businesses and shop local - shop Arlington!
