Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Ana Recio Harvey appointed to the U.S. Small Business Administration

Steps down to head U.S. Small Business Administration programs to promote women entrepreneurs

Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Ana Recio Harvey will step down from her leadership role at GWHCC to accept an appointment as Associate Administrator for the Office of Women's Business Ownership at the U.S. Small Business Administration. In her new role, Ms. Harvey will oversee the agency's wide range of programs to promote business ownership among women, ranging from financial education and self-sufficiency assessments, to specialized products and services related to government procurement, manufacturing, access to capital and international trade. Ms Harvey will officially step down effective Friday, April 24, 2009.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my work, at the federal level, of promoting small and emerging businesses", says Ms. Harvey. "A large share of Hispanic businesses are owned and operated by Hispanic women entrepreneurs, so I will have the opportunity to continue my work within the Hispanic community as well."

Ms. Harvey shared that the past year and a half with the Chamber has been an extraordinary time for her professionally and personally. "I have had the honor to work with small business owners, civic leaders, and elected officials to promote the growth and expansion of Hispanic and African American businesses in the Washington region. I have also had the pleasure to represent and promote the value of successful Hispanic business ownership to a broad range of constituencies. We have made great strides, but much more remains to be accomplished", observed Harvey. She went on to say "My interactions with many exceptional business leaders have also given me greater insight into the many challenges faced by small and Hispanic-owned companies as they seek to grow and expand into new lines of business and emerging industries and opportunities. This insight will be invaluable to me in my new role at the SBA."

Ms Harvey noted she remains committed to the work of GWHCC and will continue to be one of its most enthusiastic and loyal supporters.
